You found an awesome exotic car at an incredible price. That’s great! You’re all geared up to make a deal and close the sale. The only catch is that the seller is a private party. When you purchase from a dealership you have certain protections, especially legally, because your transaction is with a business.

In a selling situation where the dealership (business) is removed it leave you a little vulnerable if you don’t have the knowledge to protect yourself. How do you navigate the process with a private seller?

These tips will help guide you through buying from a private party and keep you from getting a lemon or worse. It is also worth noting that you should do these things even if you know the person who is selling the car. You can’t be too careful.

First Contact

When you go view the car you will likely be asked to go to the seller’s personal residence, often after business hours. In a word, this isn’t safe. Unfortunately, there are people out there who are just looking to scam someone. Don’t let it be you. Instead, ask to meet in a location that is neutral, well lit, and public. There you can view the car, test drive it, and discuss the terms of the sale. If at all possible, avoid meeting at someone’s home but if you must, do so only during daylight hours and bring someone with you. Also, never, ever, ever send electronic payment to a seller for a vehicle that you have not see or laid your hands on.

Viewing the Vehicle

When you are viewing the vehicle, look for any potential problems like rust. It may not be visible so you should look under the car or look for the telltale “rough” paint that comes from rust being painted over. Make sure all lights work, including blinkers. Check and question the clutch, brakes, steering, and any other component of the vehicle that is important to its function. View the car with a very critical eye, regardless of how pretty it looks or how badly you want it.

VIN History Report

Do not purchase a car without first getting a VIN history report (like CarFax) on it and going over it with a fine tooth comb. Look for any red flags and don’t be shy about questioning them! It should show a complete service record, any accidents, and how many owners it has had. This is very important information that you need to determine whether or not the car has been cared for appropriately, has not been in any accidents or floods, and doesn’t have any red flags on its history.

ASE Certified Mechanic Inspection

You may see this as an added expense, but in the long run it can save you a bundle and keep you from being scammed. Have an ASE certified mechanic give the car a good once over. A good mechanic can identify problems that the car may have so you can enter into the sale with your eyes wide open and know exactly what the condition of the car is. This also give you leverage for asking for a reduction in price if the car is not in the condition the seller promised – if you decide to go through with the sale at all. It will also keep you from having costly repairs days or even hours after you close the deal because you bought a lemon.

Paperwork

When you purchase a car from a private seller you shoulder the responsibility for all the paperwork. You always want a bill of sale that states the condition of the car and is signed by both the buyer and seller. There is also the sales tax, financing, and proper registration. Your local DMC can provide you with the information and forms that you need to meet the legal requirements for the paperwork of the sale. Get them ahead of time so you have them when you meet the seller, so you are ready to close the deal.

Red Flags

When you purchase from a dealership you have certain protections in place because you are working with a business. That isn’t to say you can’t get an honest, great deal on an exotic car from a private seller, but you should be careful. If you see any of these red flags it is probably best that you walk away.

  • There have been more than two owners – find out why
  • Seller can’t or won’t put the title in your hand as soon as money changes hands
  • No service records on CarFax
  • Seller wants you to pay but won’t sign the paperwork
  • The car has been repainted (beyond a repainted bumper) – even if the vehicle looks better than new
  • No record of annual service
  • Service records show that the car went in two or more times for the same issue
  • Service records are excessive
  • Lack of certified or authorized mechanics who provided any repairs or maintenance on the vehicle

When you purchase an exotic car from a private party you are usually dealing with strangers. The likelihood that you will be scammed is there, but that doesn’t need to stop you from getting that great deal on the car you want. You just need to walk into the situation well informed and vigilant. And always, if something seems hokey just walk away. Better to lose the deal than suffer some type of harm, be it physical, financial or otherwise.

There are some big changes brewing at Ferrari as the company plans to launch five new cars in 2019. Some are replacing discontinued, beloved models while others are blazing new trails. Check these beauties out and choose your favorite.

F8 Tributo
3.9 liter twin turbo V-8
710 horsepower

The 2019 Geneva motor show hosted the Tributo’s unveiling and it was everything we’d hoped it would be  sleek, sexy, powerful, and fast. The name is a tribute to the carmaker’s incredible turbo V-8 and this car definitely knows how to use it. Going from 0 to 62 in just 2.0 seconds, it hits top speed at 211 mph.

Portofino
3.9 liter twin turbo V-8
591 horsepower

The California T is no more, but Ferrari has stepped up to offer a replacement that isn’t only comparable, but better in so many ways. The Portofino convertible is a pleasure sports car that gives drivers a lux experience, but can still get up and scoot, hitting 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

488 GTB
3.9 liter twin turbocharged V-8
661 horsepower

While everyone loved the Ferrari 458, nothing lasts forever. The 488 is Ferrari’s replacement for their exotic car icon and, honestly, it is better in just about every way. Available as a Spider or a Berlinetta GTB, the Ferrari 488 is a sleek powerful daily driver that is anything but a daily grind.

GTC4Lusso
6.2 liter V-12
680 horsepower

In a move that’s almost unheard of in many exotic car circles (especially Ferrari), The Italian car maker has produced a car that seats up to four people. In fact, both the GTC4Lusso and the GTC4Lusso T have that ability. Of course, it’s still a Ferrari, so it does do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. Those passengers better hang on.

812 Superfast
6.5 liter V-12
789 horsepower

If you feel like you’ve heard “Superfast” somewhere before, you’d be right. Ferrari produced the 500 Superfast from 1964 through 1966. However, the Ferrari 812 Superfast has come a long way. With a top speed of 211 mph, the Superfast is, well, super fast. It also has four wheel Electronic Power Steering (EPS), adding great handling to all that power.

Want to put a Ferrari in your garage? Woodside Credit can make that happen. Our easy terms and low payments mean that you could find yourself slipping behind the wheel and riding off into the sunset. Contact us today for all your exotic car financing needs. Who doesn’t love a little power under the hood and some speed on the street? When it comes to fast cars, many of the exotics deliver. But sometimes you just want to go beyond the garden variety fast to something that offers a little more speed and a lot more excitement. If you’re wondering what the fastest cars are right now, we’ve got the scoop for you.

The fastest cars of 2018 are:

  1. Hennessey Venom FS – 301 mph – With a carbon fiber chassis that weighs a mere 2,950 pounds, the Venom is blowing preconceived notions about speed right out the window. The 7.4-liter twin turbo V8 offers up 1,600 horsepower. When you need speed, Hennessey is the word.
  2. SSC Tuatara – 300 mph – Coming in at a very close second is the SSC Tuatara. In case you didn’t know, the SSC means Shelby Super Cars (no relation to Carroll Shelby). The 5.9-liter supercharged V8 keeps the promise of performance and speed true to life.
  3. Keonigsegg Agera RS – 278 mph – This is the first car on our list that has actually verified its speed, so technically, it is the fastest car. Multiple speed tests give this car an average speed of 277.9 mph, but its highest recorded speed is 284.55 mph.
  4. Hennessey Venom GT – 270 mph – This entry in our top five fastest cars is a bit of a controversy. Some contend that because of its hand-built nature, the Venom GT is not actually a production car. Still, there’s no denying that this car is fast, so it’s definitely earned its spot here.
  5. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – 268 mph – You can’t talk about the fastest cars without slipping in a Bugatti somewhere. And fifth place is not too shabby. The quad turbocharged W16 engine puts this little beauty in a class all by itself and the $1.7 million price tag makes is elite.

While you may not be interested in getting your car to hit top speeds of 300 mph, you have to admit, a little speed and power definitely brings on a rush. Putting a top of the line exotic car in your garage is easy when you choose Woodside Credit for your lending needs. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.

For some families, money is tight. Even making necessary purchases like car seats can be out of reach. Not only does a car seat keep infant and child passengers safe in a car, they are required by law. When a family cannot afford a car seat, it puts the child at risk.

McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty Classic Insurance, the largest classic car insurer in the world, has launched The Shop Assembled by Hagerty, sells car related apparel, accessories, gifts, and more. A portion of every purchase goes toward purchasing car seats for underprivileged families all over the United States.

The insurance giant has partnered with Baby2Baby, a nonprofit that distributes car seats to low income children. In 2018 alone, the organization received 13,456 car seat requests in Los Angeles alone. The program does have a national reach though.

Baby2Baby distributed clothing, diapers, and other necessities to underprivileged families via several channels, including homeless shelters, children’s hospitals, domestic violence shelters, Head Start programs, foster care programs, and more.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), in 2016 there were 723 deaths of children 12  years and  younger in the United States as the result of motor vehicle crashes. Additionally, more than 128,000 children sustained injuries in motor vehicle crashes. Experts agree that children who are buckled in an age and size appropriate restraint in the rear sear are significantly less likely to be injured in a crash.

If you would like to purchase great products while helping children stay safe, browse The Shop to find cool gifts, great merchandise, and reasonable prices. A portion of every dollar you spend on the site will go toward helping families get vital things for their children like car seats. It’s a win win all the way around.

Once you have the great classic car gifts from The Shop, you’re going to want the car to go with it. Woodside Credit can help you with that. Our easy terms and great rates mean that you could drive today. What are you waiting for? Visit us today!

Classic cars can make very good investments, but not every classic is a winner. While some collector cars are decreasing in value, there are others that are increasing. In fact, some rising stars in the world of collector classics are showing such an impressive increase in value that we think they’ll be great investments for 2019.

We put together a list of makes and models that are really rising to the top. We based this list on information published by AXA Art and classic car insurer, Haggerty. They have identified makes and models that are increasing in value, usually with a range of production years. It seems that the value of these cars hinges more on the model than the production year.

Take a look at our list and see if there are any vintage beauties that you’d like to add to your stable.

When you think of McDonald’s you probably think of burgers, fries, and those iconic golden arches. The restaurant has been around for decades and it all started with that first little store in Des Plaines, Illinois. Who knew it would have such global influence that is has found its way into so many homes around the world?

The building that held that very first store was demolished in 1984. A museum was erected at the site, created by the McDonald’s Corporation to show the company’s growth and its cultural impact on the world. The museum closed in 2008, but many of the exhibits were maintained, including several classic cars.

Four cars that were part of that museum hit the auction block at Mecum in Chicago in late October. They were appropriately dubbed The McDonald’s Collection. The cars were intended to demonstrate the general optimism that was prevalent during that era. Their bright colors and shiny chrome took museum visitors back to a simpler, more innocent time.

All four cars in the McDonald’s Collection found new homes:

  • $30,800 – 1955 Chevy Bel Air
  • $37,400 – 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88
  • $38,500 – 1955 Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis
  • $39,600 – 1955 Ford Crown Victoria

There were more than 1,000 classics and performance cars that crossed the auction block along with the McDonald’s collection. Quite a few special collections were offered up, as well as individual classics and modern models.

The next Mecum auctions takes place on:

  • Kissimmee – January 3-13, 2019

You can see more about upcoming auctions for cars, tractors and motorcycles on the Mecum website.

Peanut butter and jelly, apple pie and ice cream, Tom and Jerry, movies and great cars, now that’s a combination we can get behind. Here are our picks for the top ten movies that feature exotic (and the coolest!) cars that made us fall in love.

10. Cadillacs, Bentleys, Aston Martins, Ferraris, Jaguars, Lamborghinis, and a whole lot more - Gone in 60 Seconds – 2000 – Hillary, Gina, Angelina, Denise, Lindsey, and Mary joined a host of their sisters in this fast paced, action packed film about car thieves – but they had a really good reason! This was a heart stopping parade of some of the hottest, most beautiful cars on the planet. But we can’t go without mentioning the lovely Eleanor. The epitome of the one that got away.

9. 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello – The Family Man – 2000 – This feel good movie was a modern take on “It’s a Wonderful Life” but George Bailey never drove a car like this! No, Jack Campbell slid behind the wheel of a cherry red Maranello and took us for a ride. Granted, the Ferrari was replaced by a minivan, but we can all dream that he held on that is brazen beauty, even if to just take her for a spin while the kids are at school.

8. 1981 DeLorean DMC12 - Back to the Future – 1985 – “You made a time machine? Out of a DeLorean?” Those immortal words of Marty McFly will never get old. An oldie but a goodie, the DeLorean will always be the timeless exotic that changed the way we viewed the future. You had to get it to 88 mph to kick the flux capacitor into action and make the time machine work. Maybe in the future all cars are DeLoreans – that don’t need roads.

7. Lamborghini Miura - The Italian Job – 2003 – Most people remember the impressive three Minis in this movie, but we think the star of the opening scene should get some props as well. That orange Miura didn’t last long, but oh what a spectacle she was for those moments!

6. 2008 Audi R8 - Iron Man – The dashing Tony Stark needed a car that was fast, sleek, and as debonair as he was. Although he had a Saleen S7 and AC Cobra in his pony barn, he chose the R8 and we couldn’t agree more. Very fitting for Iron Man’s alter ego.

5. Porsche 928 - Scarface – 1983 – Is there a more fitting car for a Miami gangster (and drug lord)? This was Tony Montana’s second car in the movie. He upgraded from a Caddy to a Porsche. We approve.

4. 1968 Ford Mustang GT 2+2 Fastback - Bullitt – 1968 – It isn’t an exotic, per se, but this Stang is exotic in its own rite and an iconic piece of auto movie history. Watch for yourself. Steve McQueen and the coolest car chase scene ever – who could ask for anything more?

3. Aston Martin DB5 - Goldfinger – 1964 – Yes, the DB5 has appeared in a number of James Bond movies, but this one is special because it was the first. It was specially modified specifically for the James Bond franchise.

2. Ferrari 250 GTO – Vanilla Sky – 2001 – Full disclosure, the Ferrari used in the movie, driven by Tom Cruise, was actually a kit car (built on a 1976 Datsun Z chassis). But really, we forgive the slight deception. After all, this beauty is one of the more valuable, rarest cars in the world. We’re glad the moviemakers weren’t taking any chances!

1. 1970 Dodge Charger (plus a TON of other awesome cars!) - The Fast and the Furious – 2001 – No, the Charger isn’t exactly an exotic, but it is the beautiful centerpiece for a veritable buffet of exotic cars that viewers can feast upon throughout this film. In fact, it was so tasty, they just kept on adding to this iconic car movie franchise. Yum!

Make your own movie or just feel like you’re in one with an exotic of your own. Woodside Credit can make it happen. Complete a Quick Quote or fill out an application to get started – and get a little closer to making your dream car a reality.

Supercars have a way of attracting attention. Even people who aren’t “car people” will turn their head to appreciate the beauty of a Ferrari, Lambo, or Maserati as it passes. These videos show supercars doing what they do best – being super. Enjoy the jaw-dropping, heart stopping, blood rushing excitement of these fine pieces of machinery in action.

Skilled Supercar Driers! Awesome runs, powerslides, drift, and donuts

There’s one heart stopping clip at around :20, but just about every clip in this compilation has something pretty sweet to offer. From the amazing powerslides to the POV that puts you in the driver’s seat, you get the supercar experience. And that sound, of that glorious supercar sound. There’s nothing like it.

Amazing Supercar Powerslides

Some of the coolest, sleekest supercars are in this powerslide parade. One by one they show off their awesomeness with powerslides and drifts – some more than others. More than one driver plays it safe with very little drift, and who can blame them? These are some pretty high dollar vehicles. Others go for the gusto with some great drift and slide action. Then there are a few who fully commit and go for a donut or two. A fantastic sensory experience with great visuals and outstanding audio – listen to those engines!

$2.5 Million Lamborghini Centenario CAUSES CHAOS in London

There’s one thing that all supercars have in common. They command attention wherever they go – even when they aren’t doing anything at all. That’s what happened when this Centenario was delivered to the Lamborghini showroom in London. Traffic stopped, and onlookers crowded around with cameras and phone just to catch a glimpse of this sexy beast. Watch it once and think about how nervous that poor guy must have been as he backed the $2.5 million car into that showroom – without any casualties! Then turn it on again, close your eyes and just listen to that engine. Nothing like it.

17-Year-Old takes DMV Driver’s Test in Bugatti Chiron

What did you drive when you took your driving test? Most teenagers borrow mom’s station wagon – or worse, the dreaded minivan. But, hey, it gets you from point A to point B, right? Well imagine sliding behind the wheel of a Bugatti Chiron to take your driving test. That’s what this teen did when he got his driver’s license. This is a pretty tame video. The teen has to obey all traffic rules and the person administering the test is just doing her job, but she does seem to get a bit of a kick out of the experience. In all, it’s a fun video and the most epic driving test ever.

Top 10 Rarest Supercars Ever

In this compilation you get some pretty awesome supercar eye candy and a bit of education on some of the rarest supercars ever built. See them in action and standing still as the camera caresses every line. You’re welcome.

Sure, supercar videos are fun, but after a while you want to slip behind the wheel yourself. Plus, who wants to watch some other guy have all the fun? Woodside Credit wants to help you put that supercar, exotic, or collector car in your own garage. Fill out a Quick Quote and see how low your notes can be, then get ready to star in your own supercar video.
